Walking Trail “Glavica” Officially Opened

The village of Plunci, located beneath Glavica, is about 6 km from the Rožaje bus station and approximately 3.5 km from the Brezovačko Brdo park forest and the Jela Ethno Village. This picturesque village is characterized by pristine nature, historic houses, family farms, and breathtaking landscapes. For nearly 30 years, this trail served as a vital route for pedestrians and horses, connecting Plunci and Balotići to the Karavan Route leading to Metohija, crucial for trade and survival, including transporting grain from Metohija.

Supported by the Ministry of Tourism, NGO Bijeli Ljiljan from Rožaje mapped the “Glavica” walking trail, which is 3.5 km long. The trail links Brezovačko Brdo park forest with Plunci and nearby summer pastures, aiming to foster rural tourism development.

Preserving Untouched Nature

This untouched natural gem lacks motor vehicle access, featuring the pristine Plunčanska River, whose water is safe to drink directly. The village has preserved its traditional architecture, adding to its charm.

A Gateway to Rural Tourism

This project positions Plunci as an ideal starting point for rural tourism in the municipality of Rožaje. Its close proximity, unspoiled environment, and preserved traditional ambiance make it the perfect destination. For those wondering how fairy-tale villages would look in reality, Plunci’s natural surroundings transform imagination into reality.

Historical Context of Rural Tourism

The concept of rural tourism traces back to 1951 in Chandal á la Javie, a small village in Provence, France, where Senator Emile Aubert launched a pilot project converting a traditional barn into a guest house. This initiative aimed to preserve rural areas, combat depopulation, and revive local agriculture. Today, this model has grown into the rural tourism we recognize globally.

Trail Description

The “Glavica” walking trail starts at the Plunčanski Bridge in the Brezovačko Brdo park forest, leading through the Plunčanska River gorge to the mosque in the beautiful village of Plunci. The gorge is a natural treasure with unique hydrological, geomorphological, and botanical characteristics. Its upper section, called Grlja, is particularly striking, with towering cliffs creating a strong visual impression.

The trail doesn’t end at the Plunci Mosque but continues to the peak of Glavica, offering a stunning panoramic view. Nearby, an ethno-village called “Katun Kulla” is under construction, poised to attract visitors with its pristine nature, hiking opportunities, and healthy rural cuisine.

Experience the Old Paths

The village is surrounded by pastures and forests, with homes scattered along a terrace at Glavica’s base. Trails lead to the summer pastures of Plunci and Mekovići. By the end of October, the Plunci trail will be fully marked and included in the tourism offerings for the following year. For those who love hiking, this ancestral path offers relaxation amidst nature’s sounds, physical activity, and a deep connection to the environment.

The “Kulla” Ethno Village, currently under construction, is set to become a major attraction, combining cultural heritage with opportunities for outdoor recreation.
